June has been singing for over 25 years, semi-professionally the past 3 or so. She moved to Kansas City in 1994 because of wonderful musicians and friends she met at her friend Jeri's wedding that spring. She timed her move to attend the world famous Winfield Bluegrass Festival, where she learned to play the upright bass (thank you Steve and Larry for the lessons!), and where she was inspired by the whole world of music and community there. She continues to be inspired by that same circle of musician friends, some of whom have been jamming together for over 25 years. A couple of songs written by two of these musicians appear on the CD Choices ("Choices" by Martha Haehl and "Eye of the Storm" by Fred Carlson), and several will appear on her next CD.
Along with a love for the magic of music, June loves the magic of the natural world, the magic of the human body, and the magic of human potential. She is a certified practitioner of Zen Bodytherapy®. She is part of a collaborative new company called "Shenanigans", whose mission is to foster creativity and play in the workplace. "Shenanigans" was initiated by the motivational goddess Franny Knight and can be reached through Franny's website.
June loves to live life fully and has created an eclectic, celebratory life -- from tour guiding, to waiting tables, store managing, community organizing, mediating, administrative assisting, construction working, to environmental educating. She likes to walk -- she once walked 100 miles in 6 days. She has traveled to 47 states and 13 countries, and she plans to becoming a walking tour guide someday.
June's favorite quotes are:
- "Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate the integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity to it, or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world."
~ Paolo Freire, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed
- "Successful people are the most persistent failers on the planet."

- "There are only two ways to live life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
~ Albert Einstein ~
- "Our life is our prayer, thus let your actions speak a prayer worthy of this miracle of existence."

- "When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."
~ Audre Lorde ~
